A two hour walk on the salt marsh inspired these August sketches.
There were such incredible colours and moods this morning. To keep me company were three roe bucks and a many shoreline birds.
The sky was a glorious mess of rich reds and yellows when I arrived at sunrise.
The night had been stormy with torrential rain and thunder. However it was dry by dawn and there was a magnificent sky above Avonmouth’s wind turbines.
Soon the vivid yellow sky faded as the sun rose higher. The clouds increased behind the distant Severn Bridge.
A red glow still streaked the marsh so lovely colours bounced off the salt marsh grasses.
Looking across the salt marsh towards Portishead Pier I could see the tree clad hill of Eastwood.
When the sun disappeared behind the clouds the marsh colours became more subdued. Ochres replaced the brilliant yellows.
In the middle of the salt marsh is the path to the sea.
Soon gorgeous shades of blue replaced all traces of red.
In between the blues were brilliantly vivid yellows and greens. I love these colours.
For a while even the voluminous clouds were deep, rich blues of winsor and ultramarine.
Though before long a series of grey squally rain clouds blew up the channel.
There were rainbows dancing in attendance. This one came down by Portishead Pier.
What a wonderful morning.

Gorgeous colours and brushwork, capturing the moods wonderfully. Makes me wonder why I don’t get out there more often to enjoy what is on my doorstep! But today it is pouring.
Thanks Sarah,
I hope you get a chance to get out there soon and it gives you as much pleasure as it gives me.
