Printing the salt marsh number 1
I am starting on a body of work telling the story of salt marshes. Salt marshes are very important especially in terms of carbon capture as well as wildlife.
The first print will focus on the samphire. Samphire is one of the pioneer plants which help to create salt marshes. It is a strange almost prehistoric looking plant. Fitting then that it grows here in between the 350 million year old rocks. I love the patterns of black and yellow lichen on these salt-sprayed, honeycomb-eroded ancient rocks. In May, when the whimbrel arrive, you can see the first vibrantly green shoots nudging their way through the dark mud.
