It is strange as Portbury Wharf is a much larger marsh but for some reason sea lavender is a rarity here.<\/p>\n<p>I only stumbled across a few plants last winter.\u00a0\u00a0 When the surrounding flora had died down I noticed a handful of dried out seed heads standing proud in the middle of the marsh.<\/p>\n<p>You would think sea lavender would be easy to see especially when in flower. Some are violet with a dark\u00a0pink central rib while others are almost white. Also known as Marsh Rosemary this plant is not related to lavender or rosemary but to Statice.<\/p>\n<p>The flower bracts are small but the leaves are large and wonderfully curvaceous. They sing out in\u00a0vivid lime greens and yellows, especially when sunlit from behind. One of the prettiest flowers on the marsh, the sea lavender (limonium vulgare), is in flower. There is masses of sea lavender here, but only a few plants at nearby Portbury Wharf.
