There have been reports of other waders in the area such as greenshank, though I did not see them myself\u00a0so my list of sketches remains incomplete.<\/p>\n<h1>COMMON SANDPIPER AND TURNSTONES<\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ukwildlifeart.co.uk\/saltmarsh_art_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/common_sandpiper1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ukwildlifeart.co.uk\/saltmarsh_art_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/common_sandpiper1.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_6424 - Version 2\" width=\"640\" height=\"403\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I often see one or two pairs of common sandpipers bobbing rhythmically\u00a0in the muddy pills at either end of the salt marsh as they look for food.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ukwildlifeart.co.uk\/saltmarsh_art_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/summer_turnstones.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ukwildlifeart.co.uk\/saltmarsh_art_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/summer_turnstones.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_6424 - Version 3\" width=\"640\" height=\"228\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rather more unexpected was a small flock of turnstones distinctive in their summer plumage of dark breast patch and white head. I usually see them further down the coast on the pebble strewn beaches where they live up to their name turning over stones, seaweed and flotsam searching for food. So It is great to see them here even though I had to make do with a distant view as they never came very close to me.<\/p>\n<h1>BLACK-TAILED GODWITS<\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ukwildlifeart.co.uk\/saltmarsh_art_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/godwits6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ukwildlifeart.co.uk\/saltmarsh_art_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/godwits6.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_6337\" width=\"640\" height=\"475\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is one of my favourite waders, a tall long-billed elegant bird shown here preening alongside the smaller redshank.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ukwildlifeart.co.uk\/saltmarsh_art_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/godwits2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ukwildlifeart.co.uk\/saltmarsh_art_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/godwits2.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_6337\" width=\"640\" height=\"441\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/ukwildlifeart.co.uk\/saltmarsh_art_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/godwits4.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I have not been able to get close to the godwits on the marsh as they prefer more inaccessible\u00a0areas so the sketches above are of godwits seen at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust at Slimbridge just up the coast.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ukwildlifeart.co.uk\/saltmarsh_art_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/godwits7.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ukwildlifeart.co.uk\/saltmarsh_art_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/godwits7.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_6337 -
