Salt Marsh Sketch Books

June Salt Marsh Sketches
A June salt marsh is such a wonderful and unique place. House martins fizz and wheel overhead and if you are lucky you can watch owls hunt here.
Certainly each month brings its own particular joys and June is no exception. The vibrant green of the salt marsh contrasts with the winsor blue of the Welsh hills. While glorious sunrises lift themselves above the cranes of Royal Portbury Docks.
So full of expectation of the summer still to come, it has inspired these sketches which feature in my June book.
My salt marshes are in the Severn Estuary at the top end of the Bristol Channel. Nevertheless they are similar to salt marshes found anywhere around our coastline.

Each month the atmosphere and wildlife of the salt marshes change, so plenty for me to sketch. It may take a while for me to complete all 12 months but you can see all the books completed so far below.

Finally if you are interested in the books you might like to know a bit more. Over 80 watercolours, pastel and pencil sketches, each with their own colour palette, fill the 56 pages. A brief and gentle narrative threads its way in between the birds, boats and seascapes.
Printed on silk paper with a matt laminated soft cover, the books are 216 mm wide by 135 mm (8.5 x 5.5 inches). Customers can purchase them directly from me with each book costing £10.00 plus £2.00 post and packing.

October Salt Marsh Sketches
With summer gone the October salt marsh has taken on a more muted palette. Never dull though, as sea aster stems have turned a gorgeous wine red and orache has become deliciously pink.
The autumn colours are one of the reasons why I love this time of year. The other reason is because I love watching all the new birds that have arrived. From redwings to wigeon and plenty of wading birds, they migrate from over the seas to spend the winter here.

Because the atmosphere and wildlife of the salt marshes change each month there is always plenty for me to sketch. It may take a while for me to complete all 12 months but you can see the books completed so far below. I hope you enjoy these sketches.

August is a great time of year, not least because of the warm sunshine and long hazy days. Though the sun does not always shine and the refreshing summer storms are also fantastic.
There may be less birds around at this time of year but the variety of insects and plants more than make up for this.

Because the atmosphere and wildlife of the salt marshes change each month there is always plenty for me to sketch. It may take a while for me to complete all 12 months but you can see the books completed so far below. I hope you enjoy these sketches.
